If the Republican party can have a nothing platform, and Seinfield can be a show about nothing, why can’t I write a blog about nothing? To be fair, the Republican party has a lot to say about what they aren’t for or about (women’s rights, equal rights, democracy, voting rights, anti-discrimination, LGBTQ rights, critical race theory, reasonable gun legislation, and the list goes on).
I, too, have a lot to say about what I am not for. And that list is the exact opposite of the one above. But, let’s get back to nothing. I researched nothing for this blog. Yes, you can actually research nothing. At the very least there are several definitions of note. The one that caught my eye reminded me of a story my mother told about my father on their first date and how corny he was. So corny she almost did not go out with him a second time but felt sorry for him and capitulated. Here’s the story: As they were dancing, my father asked my mother if she wanted him to whisper sweet nothings in her ear and then proceeded to whisper, ”nothing, nothing, nothing.” I know y’all are just dying to know where the saying sweet nothings originated from. Apparently, within the Merriam Webster dictionary definition, the third entry is about light, playful or frivolous remarks and then noted a quote from Dickens which is where the saying sweet nothings came from. Here is the quote: “He … had the most insinuating way of saying impertinent nothings to his doting female admirers.” Fascinating, huh?
I’d like to think that my books are not about nothing, but y’all have the opportunity to discover that for yourselves. Simply click the links below to check this out. Don’t forget about the two sales books this week in MyLesfic: The Circle Dance by Goldie Finalist Jen Silver and Earthbound by Goldie Winner JM Dragon and Erin O’Reilly.
