Breast Fruit

First, let me say…Happy Pride Month, and don’t let the assholes keep you from celebrating! Now…onto my topic for this week. A few months back, I came across this article (link: https://www.globaltimes.cn/content/800503.shtml) about a fruit that looks just like a woman’s breast, called the milk melon. Well, imagine my excitement about this, especially when I saw the pictures and thought, OMG, you can’t get any more realistic than that. I wondered: What would it taste like? Where can you get this fruit? Could I grow this? Now…before y’all get too excited, here’s what my research found:

Supposedly the fruit can be found in Viet Nam.
According to the article, a spokesperson from Vietnam’s Ministry of Commerce said this melon is expected to enter the Chinese market in large quantities. The source of that news was: xinhuanet.com/china.com.cn (Not the most reliable source…so I dug around a little more…)
To my great disappointment, the whole thing is a complete hoax….a seed scam that started with an artist creating a picture of the supposed milk melons that were, in reality, made from silicon. The fake melons hung from a cafe in Hanoi.

The seeds initially sold for $5.00 on multiple reputable sites like eBay and Amazon. And in fact, you can still get those seeds on Amazon for $16.99…don’t believe me…here’s the purchase link: https://www.amazon.com/Dichondra-Fresh-Vietnam-Melon-Planting/dp/B0BW16R9V4/
Apparently, a shit-ton of people did receive seeds, but they were of regular melons. By the time those seeds grew to full shape, the scammer had already sold a bunch of them and scammed a lot of people.

So…what’s the point of this blog? Don’t believe everything you read! While suspension of disbelief is almost essential when reading fantasy or sci-fi, perhaps even many of my thrillers (cough, cough, like my latest, Politics of Love), a healthy dose of skepticism will serve you well when reading the news. Always consider the source. I can think of several right-wing news outlets that often peddle lies!
