Imagine my surprise to learn that this was actually a thing! As someone who is almost obsessive about regular exercise, I read with great interest about coregasms. For those of you who don’t know what they are, well, let me educate you about them. A coregasm is when an orgasm happens during core exercise, minus any sexual thoughts or fantasies. So, no, you can’t increase your chances of having one while you read a particularly steamy sapphic novel during your morning exercise routine. Although reading an erotic book may increase your chances of having an orgasm while exercising, it won’t be considered a coregasm! I haven’t personally ever experienced a coregasm, only a runner’s high. I suspect that a coregasm is so much better than a runner’s high! So…what did I learn about coregasms? I am delighted to share my findings….

- While scientists don’t exactly know why coregasms happen, the leading theory is that fatigued abdominal muscles somehow produce a kind of inner pelvic floor stimulation, causing an orgasm.
- The types of exercises most likely to result in a coregasm include: crunches, leg lifts, knee lifts, side crunches, chin-ups, hamstring curls, planks, squats, pull-ups, and climbing. I’ve also read that spin classes (exercise bikes), pole dancing, and rope climbing, for perhaps obvious reasons, can result in spontaneous orgasm. Oh, I so remember loving to climb that rope in gym class! In addition, if you’re into yoga, poses like Boat Pose, Eagle Pose, and Bridge Pose are most likely to trigger a coregasm.
- Coregasms are not new. Scientists have known about them since the 1950s! At that time, it was known as an EIO or exercise-induced orgasm.
- If you want to increase your chances of a coregasm, it it recommended to focus on strenghtening your core and incorporating Kegel exercises. Additionally, doing 20-30 minutes of cardio at the start of your workout may increase sexual arousal and desire. I don’t think this works for everyone because I generally do 90 minutes of cardio every day and I’ve never had a coregasm…sad face! Maybe my workouts are high intensity enough because they’re supposed to increase the likelihood of orgasm.
- Unfortunately, only about 20% of women report experiencing tingling during exercise. In a research study, 10% of respondents had experienced an orgasm while exercising. So while coregasms are not a myth because they do occur, it’s probably not all that common. Dammit!
- A coregasm is apparently deeper and longer lasting that orgasms during sex. Supposedly, a G-spot orgasm is the closest to a coregasm in terms of how it feels. Because they are irregular and unexpected, apparently, they are more enjoyable.

I’ve had plenty of characters who enjoy regular exercise in my books, but since I didn’t know about coregasms, I’ve never included a scene where a character experiences one. I should really consider that for a future book. In the meantime, please feel free to check out my backlist while waiting for that future book! You know the drill, just click one of the links below.
