I was on my exercise bike this morning when I glanced at my watch and realized…oh, shit, it’s Friday. For some reason, I thought I had another day to write my Friday blog. I guess that’s retirement for you…the days seem to blend together. Anyway, you probably don’t care even a tiny bit about why I’m late today with the topic of the blog in big bold letters. Now, I’ve already written about the eleven different types of orgasms before, and here’s the link to that blog: https://wordpress.com/post/annettemoriauthor.com/8478. So I won’t be going over previously covered territory (and no, I did not have an exercise orgasm this morning). So let’s get into the topic at hand.
The whole reason this even filtered through my demented little brain was as a result of my full medical workup last year that included a pap smear. Pap smears are particularly traumatic to me because I am very small…down there or is it in there? The doctor has to use the smallest speculum and even then, I tighten quicker than a rainbow print shirt selling out at Pride. Apparently, according to my doctor, this condition is called vaginismus. After my pap, she was quick to explain that she could make a referral to learn exercises to correct this condition so that sex with penetration wouldn’t be painful. Without missing a beat, I said, “You do know I’m a lesbian and there are a lot of different ways to orgasm. I’m good, but thanks.” Well, this got me thinking about how often sex is described in WLW books, and even with my sex scenes, it often includes either a combination of vaginal and clitoral stimulation, or just clitoral stimulation. Then, of course, I started thinking about the differences between those two very different orgasms. Is there a preference in the WLW community? Can women tell the difference between the two? Inquiring minds….So here are the results of my quick Google search on the topic.
- According to research done in the late 70s, women reported that a clitoral orgasm is localized, intense, and physically satisfying, whereas a vaginal orgasm is stronger and longer lasting “deeper, a whole body sensation with throbbing feelings, and more psychologically satisfying.”
- The same study did not identify a clear winner between the two. Although it seems women who masturbated preferred clitoral orgasms, while women who didn’t regularly masturbate achieved orgasm less frequently overall and didn’t combine their sex with clitoral stimulation.
- In 2010 a study was done with Twins on G-Spot orgasms and only a little over half reported a discernable presence of a G-spot with the presence rapidly decreasing with age. Darnit, just another shitty thing to happen to us mature women.
- There were competing studies by men because, of course, they would be interested, with one weighing in and stating clitoral orgasms were better while the other guy stated vaginal orgasms prevail. Like we can’t make up our own minds as women, men have to do research on this to help us decide (yes, that is sarcasm).
- I found one (not very scientific) survey of lesbian sex preferences, that asked 130 WLW to rank sexual activities, and here were their preferences (link to the article- https://micheleomara.com/lesbian-scissoring-tribadism-or-oral-sex-what-do-gay-women-like/):
- The top most satisfying lesbian sexual activities (as defined by leading to orgasm or providing maximum pleasure): clitoral stimulation by hand – 67%, receiving oral sex – 64%, clitoral stimulation by vibrator – 55%, and penetrative stimulation by partner’s hand – 54%
- The top four sexual activities most frequently engaged in by lesbians: clitoral stimulation by partner’s hand – 76%, penetrative stimulation by partner’s hand or fingers – 71%, giving oral sex – 68%, receiving oral sex – 60%
My new book, Undercover Love does have one sex scene that includes a combination of oral sex, clitoral stimulation, and penetration of fingers. So I suppose, I wanted to cover all bases! If you want to check it out, you know the drill, click one of the links below.
